Why New Student Orientation?

Why New Student Orientation?

By Brett Coleman

Orientation is a crash course on everything Dixie State University, our campus resources and our Trailblazer traditions.

For me, I was excited, anxious and a little nervous about the adventures awaiting me at DSU. Feeling the same way? I’ve got your back.

By attending orientation, you are going to learn the ins and outs of campus. You will meet fellow classmates while learning how to live, experience and thrive by embracing #thedixielife. You are going to leave knowing how campus resources like the Health and Counseling Center, Academic Advisement Center and the Student Success Center impact your student experience.

[Pro Tip: USE all the campus resources while you’re at Dixie]

To make New Student Orientation a breeze, here are my go-to tips:

  • Bring water! It gets toasty during the summer.
  • Get your ID photo taken at orientation check-in and pick up your student ID card at the Campus Store.
  • Revamp your wardrobe with new Trailblazer gear!
  • Beat the first week of school lines by getting your parking pass while you’re on campus.
  • Make a new friend in your major.
  • Start off your Trailblazer traditions by rubbing the nose of our Brooks the Bison statue, taking a selfie and tagging @dixiestate.

If your parents tag along, let them know they will learn about Parent and Family Programs, including Parent and Family Weekend during Homecoming week, take a college tour to be familiar with your home away from home, and gain insights of how to support you while you pursue getting your education at Dixie State.
